Kansas City Royals Vs. Los Angeles Angels Game #1 Preview
- Updated: April 10, 2015
The Los Angeles Angels will open up their 2015 home debut with the AL Champion Kansas City Royals on Friday night. Halo fans do need to be reminded of what the Royals did to the Angels last season in the playoffs and it’s safe to say the Angels are looking for revenge.
For the Angels left hander Hector Santiago will take the hill to make his season debut. In Santiago’s first season with the Halos he had an up and down year but finds himself back the rotation. He posted a 6-9 record with a 3.75 ERA in 30 games, making 24 starts. He will look to fare better in the win column this year and tonight will be the first step of that process.
Santiago will need to be careful against the balanced Royals lineup. Lorenzo Cain and Eric Hosmer made the White Sox pay in their first series of the year. Alcides Escobar and Salvador Perez have also out of the gates fast in 2015.
On the end of the coin, the Royals will turn to left hander Jason Vargas. Vargas has had great success over the course of his career at Angels Stadium, with a record of 9-3 with a 2.86 ERA. Last season he posted a 11-10 record with a 3.71 ERA over the course of 30 games.
Vargas knows to watch out for Mike Trout and Albert Pujols. The two big bats in the Angels lineup hit the ball pretty well in Seattle and will want to get off on the right in the home opener.
