Adrian Gonzalez is on fire! So far this season he’s hit 5 home runs in 13 at bats so far this season including three tonight to lift the Los Angeles Dodgers over the San Diego Padres 7-4.
For the Dodgers Brandon McCarthy made his season debut. He pitched 5 innings allowing 9 hits, 4 runs, while striking out 9. It was the Padres who got on the board first. Justin Upton hit a two run shot that scored Matt Kemp to give the Padres a 2-0 lead. This was Upton’s first home run as a Padre.
Andrew Cashner made his season debut for the Padres tonight. He’ll be having some nightmares of Adrian Gonzalez tonight. Cashner pitched 5 innings, allowing 8 hits, 5 runs, while striking out 6.
Gonzalez answered Upton’s home run with one of his own in the first inning. His solo shot trimmed the Padres lead 2-1.
In the second inning with the bases loaded Cashner walked McCarthy which brought in Carl Crawford from third to tie the game at 2 apiece. Jimmy Rollins reached on an error that allowed Juan Uribe to score which game the Dodgers the 3-2 lead. Yasel Puig grounded into a field choice that scored Joc Pederson and the Dodgers entered the 3rd inning up 4-2.
In the third Gonzalez was at it again. He hit his second solo shot of the night to give the Dodgers a 5-2 lead. He then went for the hat trick and hit his 3rd one of the game in the 5th to give the Dodgers the 6-2.
Will Middlebrooks answered the call as he hit a solo shot in the 6th inning. This cut the Dodgers led to 6-3. Yoanagris Solitaire hit a RBI double in the inning that brought home Yonder Alonso that cut the lead to 6-4.
In the 7th in was yet again Gonzalez. This time a RBI single that brought in Justin Turner and gave the Dodgers the 7-4 victory.
Joel Peralta came on in the 9th for the Dodgers and recorded his first save of the year.
The Dodgers are off tomorrow before taking on the Arizona Diamondbacks on the road on Friday.
