Last night game two between these National League West rivals resulted in the San Diego Padres getting even from the loss on opening day. Tyson Ross (6.0 IP, 4 K’s, 2 ER, 3.00 ERA) faced Zack Greinke (6.0 IP, 4 K’s, 1 ER, 1.50 ERA) who  both were on point on the mound. Surprisingly enough Matt Kemp yet again was responsible for the first run scored of the game.

With two outs and a 3-2 count, Greinke nearly struck out Matt Kemp. But it was Kemp who hit a single to center field as he extended the inning. This proved to be a critical at bat as Justin Upton brought in Kemp to score with an RBI triple as San Diego took an early 1-0 lead.

It wasn’t until the bottom of the sixth inning when the Los Angeles Dodgers were able to score some runs. Yasiel Puig started the bottom of the sixth as he hit a double with no outs. Adrian Gonzalez who has been hot immediately brought in Puig to score with an RBI double to center field. Howie Kendrick gave the Dodgers a 2-1 lead with his RBI single to center.

However the San Diego Padres didn’t go down without a fight. Due to a second error by Jimmy Rollins, Yonder Alonso tied the game in the top of the seventh inning from a pop fly Rollins couldn’t field hit by pinch hitter Yangervis Solarte. This tied the game at 2-2. In the top of the eighth the Padres took the lead back 3-2 as Yonder Alonso hit another RBI single.

Adrian Gonzalez came through yet again as he has hit back to back home runs against his former team and has gone (6-9, 2 HR, 3 RBI) with a .667 batting average. His second home run tied the game at 3-3 going into the ninth. Unfortunately reliever Chris Hatcher (L, 0-1, 18.00 ERA) allowed two more runs as the Padres went up 4-3 and didn’t look back as the final was 7-3.

Tonight pitcher Brandon McCarthy (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his Dodger debut against Andrew Cashner (0-0, 0.00 ERA) in the series finale. Whomever wins tonight will win the series, let’s go Dodgers.
