Dodgers Defeat Padres; Lead MLB In HRs

Another sunny afternoon in Glendale, Arizona and a great day for a Cactus League matchup between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the San Diego Padres. There’s been added tension to this already strained rivalry, with the Dodgers losing superstar outfielder Matt Kemp to the other NL team in Southern California. With that being said the Dodgers certainly didn’t take this matchup lightly.

The boys in blue, royal blue that is, lead the league with a 12-6 record. The Padres are a full 3 games behind with a record off 11-11. With the countdown to opening day winding down, and these two teams meeting on that day, we can see both rosters finalizing themselves. Just 11 more days until this matchup has official post season implications, however immature they may be.

Fortunately for the Dodgers, their young core showed up ready to play and Yasiel Puig got it going early. The home run, and subsequent bat flip, were an absolute beauty to behold. As seem above, Puig blasted that HR. I wouldn’t be surprised if he knocked the laces off that ball.

And that was only after he made THIS heads up play to get this first out of the game.

Not to be outdone by his fellow outfielder, Joc Pederson stepped to the plate to knock out his 4th HR of the year, tying Puig in the process. The game turned into a home-run derby shortly thereafter when Justin Turner and Scott Van Slyke joined the party. Including today, the Dodgers now have 37 HRs this year, and 141 runs. They lead the league in both of those categories.

Tomorrow afternoon, Cy Young winner Clayton Kershaw will take the mound as the Dodgers take on the Chicago White Sox. The game is slated to begin at 1:05pm on March 26th, 2015 at Camelback Ranch in Glendale, Arizona. Dodgers fans are hoping that these bats stay hot and that they can transition into the regular season with this same momentum they’ve been building in Spring Training.
