The Los Angeles Lakers (0-5) lost a hard-fought battle to the Phoenix Suns (3-1) 112-106 tonight. Kobe Bryant scored 39 points but it wasn’t enough to get the Lakers their first victory of the season.

The Lakers and Suns had already met once this season in which the Suns won convincingly. Click here to read the recap.

The Phoenix Suns have a unique makeup of their team and it served to be too much for the Lakers to handle. Isiah Thomas and Gerald Green off the bench combined for 48 points. Green, known as a high flyer threw down a monster dunk over Lakers center, Jordan Hill.

Markieff Morris scored 23 points of his own. He also added 10 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the Suns to victory.

For the Lakers, Kobe Bryant put together his highest point total of the season. The Laker Legend scored 39 points on 14-37 shooting from the field. The Black Mamba also grabbed 9 rebounds had pulled another rabbit out of his hat with this trick shot.

Jeremey Lin had his best game as a Laker thus far. The Harvard product hit a few big free throws in fourth quarter and ended up with 18 points and three assist.

Jordan Hill put together another solid performance. He has started the season on a high note and continued that tonight. He had 15 points and 15 rebounds. The Lakers could have won this game but beat themselves tonight. They were aggressive drawing fouls and getting to the free throw line. The only problem was that the Lakers missed eleven free throws tonight, not exactly the recipe for success.

With the loss the Lakers fall to 0-5, and are the only team in the Western Conference not to have a W in the win column yet.

On the bright side, the Lakers will have the rest of the week off. Their next game will against the Charlotte Hornets at the Staples Center on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 6:30 p.m.
