Jeff Carter scored the opening goal of the game in the first period with a slap shot goal. His goal was assisted by Andrej Sekera and Drew Doughty. The Kings outshot the Predators 11-9 in the period and left the first period with the 1-0 advantage.

The second period was period with no goals as the Predators outshot the Kings 8-6. It was the third period where the action took place. Craig Smith scored a wrist shot goal to tie the game. Ryan Ellis and Seth Jones assisted on the goal.

A minute later Viktor Stalberg scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Roman Josi and Matt Cullen. This would serve to be the game winner that was deflected off of Jake Muzzin stick that won the game.”

Read the Los Angeles Daily News article on the Kings playoff spot battle:

“It seems preposterous to imagine the Stanley Cup playoffs unfolding without the Kings. They are the reigning champions, after all, a team with the grit and muscle and pedigree to hoist Lord Stanley’s 35-pound trophy again if all goes well in the coming weeks and months.

Then again, the Kings haven’t secured an invitation to the party yet.

Not by a long shot.

Saturday dawned with the Kings holding the eighth and final position in the Western Conference, leading the Winnipeg Jets by only one point for the second of two wild-card positions.”
