SuperCharger MVP – San Diego Chargers Week 9

The San Diego Chargers were exposed Sunday in their game against the Miami Dolphins where the Chargers would lose 0-37. Usually, we can blame a specific area for the loss like the offense or the defense. It just was not the case this time around, though, as several different parts of the team would be just simply manhandled by the Dolphins.
One player who tends to win the SuperCharger MVP from time to time is quarterback, Philip Rivers, who may actually get the LVP this week (if we actually had one). Rivers was 12-23 for 138 passing yards and 3 interceptions. Not to mention, Rivers’ QBR would be just 19.8.
It is stunning to see someone who just a few weeks ago was turning heads for possibly an MVP season to now being taken out of that equation completely.
The running game was also non-existent with Branden Oliver having a poor performance (13 carries for 19 yards). Donald Brown would come in and have a couple nice runs so it is definitely possible to see Brown getting more carries in the coming weeks.
Wide receivers, Malcom Floyd and Keenan Allen, had decent performances. Nothing that stood out but solid performances.
On defense, no one really stood out except for linebacker Andrew Gachkar, who recorded 5 tackles but had 3 tackles for a loss which signified Gachkar’s ability to penetrate the backfield and make a play on multiple occasions.
When choosing the SuperCharger MVP of the week, though, we have to look outside of offense and defense and, instead, on special teams. Kick return-man, Chris Davis, had a very nice game getting the Chargers descent field position to start their drives even though the Chargers still could not move the ball down the field and get any sort of points.
Davis would have a total of 4 returns where he would combine for 116 total return yards which would equate to a 29 yard average. Davis’ longest return of the day would be 35 yards.
Davis, who went to college at Auburn, was the one famous for returning the missed field goal for a touchdown against Alabama in the Iron Bowl for the victory.
While Davis was able to produce on Sunday like he did in college, the rest of his Chargers’ squad could not and that would be the ultimate factor in this blowout loss to the Dolphins.
