The Los Angeles Lakers are out of the playoffs this year, a thing the franchise is not accustomed to. This franchise has missed the playoffs seven times out of their 67 years of existence in the NBA, including their stint in Minneapolis.
This season has been a disappointing year, but some players are taking advantage of the time given to them. A surprisingly pair of Laker guards, Jeremy Lin and Jordan Clarkson, are taking the challenge of leading the Lakers during the stretch of the season.
Byron Scott has been able to have both guards lead the starters and bench. In games, Jeremy Lin’s confidence was shown during the season. During the post all-star break, Jeremy Lin has averaged 14.3 points per-game, team-high in assists (5.5) and steals (1.6), during a 10-game stretch. Scott has been able to get his guards in the pick and roll offense. Jeremy Lin had tremendous success with the pick and roll offense in New York, known as the Lin-Sanity period. Jeremy has been able to teach Clarkson on how to read the defense similar to the elite point guards.
Jordan Clarkson has been given the reins to lead this Laker team during the Post-All Star period. Clarkson and Wayne Ellington are the only players to start every game after the All-Star break. Clarkson is leading the Lakers in scoring with an average of 15.0 points per game. Jordan is able to lead the team while also being able to read the defense. His youth is shown every game, with the energy he expands on both sides of the court. Jordan has scored 10+ points in 9 out of 10 games and has dished out 5+ assists in 6 out of 10 games. On March 6th, Clarkson scored a career-high of 25 points on 12 out of 18 shooting from the field.
Jeremy Lin told reporters how impressed he was on Clarkson’s performance,
“To do it against a great team defense like Memphis, that’s hard to do on their floor. The kid has grown up and has a ton of potential. It’s impressive.”
With the season coming to a close, Jordan Clarkson has the opportunity to grow as a player and he’s getting use to the rigorous NBA life. Jeremy Lin is able to be a leader and closer of games for the Lakers this season.
