Sacramento Kings Beat LA Clippers 98-92

The Sacramento Kings (2-1) traveled to Los Angeles Sunday afternoon, and beat the Los Angeles Clippers (2-1) 98-92. The Clippers had swept the Kings last season, but it looks like the Kings decided to have no part of that this year.

DeMarcus Cousins had a huge game for the Kings. He scored 34 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, dished 5 assists, and blocked 3 shots in the win. Rudy Gay chipped in 25 points to help the cause, while the Clippers struggled from the field.

The Kings dominated the fourth quarter.  They outscored the Clippers 28-18 during the stretch. While the Kings shot an outstanding 50% from the field, the Clippers were ice cold. They shot just 38% from the field and 30% from the three-point line. Blake Griffin was just 6-20 from the floor and end up with 17 points.

Sharpshooter J.J. Redick also struggled from the floor. He was 4-14, 2-10 from behind the arc. The struggle was real for the Clippers from behind the arc as they went 0-12 in the fourth quarter from that range.

DeMarcus Cousins all around game seemed to be too much for the Clippers to handle. Zach Lowe of Grantland.com had this to say about Cousins’ performance.

An underlying story was the return of Darren Collison. Collison who played for the Clippers last season made the trip back to LA to take on his former team. Late in the fourth quarter, Collison hit a huge pull up jumper on the right elbow that sealed the win for the Kings.

Watch the highlights of the game below.

Reigning Sixth man of the year Jamal Crawford did not play in yesterday’s contest. He is suffering from sore left ribs, and is listed as doubtful for tonight’s contest.

The Clippers will take on the Utah Jazz tonight at home in the Staples Center. Tonight’s game will be the fourth game in five nights for the team, so it will be interesting to see how fresh the Clippers look.
