Andre Ethier On His Way Out?

According to Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com the Los Angeles Dodgers are willing to pay half of Andre Ethier’s contract to move him.

The Dodgers are have a crowded outfield and Ethier seems to be the odd man out in this situation. With the likes of rookie Joc Pederson and Yasiel Puig that leaves only one outfielder spot left and may assume Carl Crawford will man that position.

Andre Ethier has made it very clear that he desires to be traded if he isn’t starting, and well that Dodgers have been trying to move him all winter. There has been zero success in the trade opportunities for a number of reasons.

Everyone knows that Ethier is overpaid right now as he is set to make 56 million dollars over the next 3 seasons. And with the Dodgers outfield already stacked they can afford to move him.

With that being said Heyman reported that the Dodgers are willing to pay half of that salary in order to move him. But will that really help trade talks? Most teams have pretty solid outfielders but Heyman brings up the Baltimore Orioles and Toronto Blue Jays as possible options.

Even though the O’s loss two of their starting outfielders from last year I think they’ll play the wait and see game to see how the replacements fair. There’s no point in making a trade for Ethier when you potentially have decent replacements already on your roster.

Last year Ethier didn’t necessarily blow anyone away with his numbers. He hit a career low .249 but to his defense he did have the fewest plate appearances of his career as well. With his batting averaging decreasing each of the last three seasons it makes the case to trade for Either that much harder.

While he has been a Dodger his whole career it looks as if his days are numbered. What do you think Dodger fans? Is it worth paying half the contract to move him?
