Mark Ellis, or as Dodger fans knew him, “MEllis”, announced retirement on Wednesday. The Los Angeles Dodgers thanked him on Twitter for his services.
The second baseman played 12 seasons and played with the A’s, Rockies, Dodgers, and lastly, the St.Louis Cardinals.
Ellis was one of the best defensive second baseman the Dodgers have ever had. While he was known for defense, he often surprised everyone with an offensive spark of his own.
Although Ellis only played two seasons in Dodger blue, he had a lot of magical memories and played a huge role in the success of the team. In remembering the memories he spent with the Dodgers, I’ll recap top five of his best moments.
5. The One With the Diving Snag
On April 30th, 2012 against the Colorado Rockies, Mark made this tremendous diving snag which saved the Dodgers from trailing from an even bigger deficit as there was only one out and runners at the corners while losing 5-3.
