Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Kings Edition
- Updated: October 30, 2014
We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Kings.
The Los Angeles Kings rank 18th in the NHL in terms of offensive production, scoring 2.56 goals per game.
“This isn’t a new trend for L.A. When the club won its first Stanley Cup in 2011-12, it did so after finishing 29th in regular-season scoring.
It’s tempting to shrug and say “defence wins championships,” but that actually isn’t the case with the Kings. Los Angeles has won two championships in the last three seasons, and both times it was able to massively increase its scoring in the postseason.
In 2012, the team saw a massive 24 percent spike in its per-game offense in the playoffs. In 2014, the number was an absurd 40 percent increase. The Kings need goals just like any other team, and they’vemanaged to find them in the postseason.
That’s why it’s a little troubling to note that it’s basically just one line scoring for the defending champions this season:”

“Brayden Schenn scored 2:36 into overtime, and the Philadelphia Flyers snapped the Los Angeles Kings’ six-game win streak with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday night.
Schenn beat Jonathan Quick on a breakaway. He was credited with his third goal of the season after a brief replay review, sending the Flyers to their third straight win.
Former Flyers captain Mike Richards scored the tying goal in the third period. Tyler Toffoli also scored for the Kings.
Michael Raffl and Chris VandeVelde scored in regulation for the Flyers.
The Flyers outshot the Kings 41-39 in regulation.
With center Anze Kopitar out with an upper-body injury and defenseman Slava Voynov suspended, the Kings ran into salary-cap issues and had only 19 players dressed for the game.
Raffl pounced when Claude Giroux’s shot was blocked and scored his fifth goal of the season for a 1-0 lead.
Toffoli also was in a perfect spot when the Flyers mishandled the puck. It bounced straight to Toffoli, who scored a short-handed goal late in the first.
VandeVelde, playing on the fourth line, scored with 43.7 seconds left in the first period for his first goal since 2012, lifting Philadelphia to a 2-1 lead.”
