Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Lakers Edition
- Updated: October 28, 2014
We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Lakers.
For Carmelo Anthony, there is nothing better than being back in New York after a summer full of free agent visits and rumors.
“He decided it was best for him to commit to the Knicks and sign a five-year, $124 million contract, but only because he “felt more comfortable staying here in New York.”
Following the ESPN Magazine that reported Kobe’s attitude was the reason Anthony decided against the Lakers, he said
“Hell no. Of course not,” Anthony said. “If I thought that [playing for the Lakers] was the right situation for me from an overall perspective as far as having a team there, then I would have looked at that situation more in-depth. I just felt more comfortable staying here in New York. But as far as playing with him … I’m here now but I would always love to play with Kobe.”
Carmelo Anthony told ESPN that he considers Bryant a good friend and the two had several conversations outside of the scheduled pitch meeting. Still, he never felt pressured from Kobe or anyone else on the team.
“He wasn’t calling me every day and like, ‘Get over here! I want you here!'” Anthony said. “We had conversations about different situations whether it was in New York or in L.A., but it wasn’t to the point where it was non-stop calling or texting or stuff like that.”

The moment we have all been waiting for is finally here! The Los Angeles Lakers open their season tomorrow night against the Houston Rockets.
“The Lakers are coming off of their worst season in 54 years and Dwight Howard’s Rockets will be more than happy to capitalize on that. Howard’s return could create an interesting dynamic for both teams.
Ironically enough, the loss of Steve Nash will open up the door for former Houston Rocket player, Jeremy Lin, to start at point guard.
“I’m trying not to build this game up, make it any bigger than it is,” Lin said of facing his former team in the opener. “The headline’s Kobe vs. Dwight.”
Lin averaged 13.0 points and 5.2 assists in his last two seasons with the Rockets. He managed to beat Ronnie Price to the finish line in the race for starting point guard. Price is the only other true point guard on the roster and seems like his appearance will be probable for opening night, despite a bone bruise.
Nick Young is also out until December, and Ryan Kelly, Xavier Henry and Wayne Ellington will also miss opening night.
Unfortunately the pressure will be on for Carlos Boozer and rookie Julius Randle. No one will take more heat, however, than Kobe Bryant who will be expected to dominate. Coach Byron Scott will need to monitor Bryant’s minutes throughout this season, because averaging 38.8 minutes is starting to seem a little excessive.”
