The Los Angeles Kings are playing their best hockey of the season as they beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 3-2 to extend their winning streak to five in a row. After experts of all sorts have questioned whether this Kings team was in a funk or if they just were capable of turning it on the Kings have found their groove.
In their last game the Kings were able to skate past the Washington Capitals 3-1. Tonight they would find themselves in an early deficit and claw their way into the win column.
The Lightning were the first to score after Nikita Nesterov scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Ondrej Palat. The first period would end with Tampa on top 1-0 as the Lightning outshot the Kings 9-7.
In the second period Anze Kopitar scored a wrist shot to even the score. His goal was assisted by Trevor Lewis and Brayden McNabb. The Kings outshot the Lightning 12-9 in the second period as the game was tied entering the final period.
Jordan Nolan gave the Kings the lead after he put a backhanded shot through the net. Dwight King and Nick Shore would be credited with the assist. Jeff Carter put a wrist shot through that gave the Kings a 3-1 advantage. Drew Doughty and King were credited with the assist.
In the final minute of the game Tyler Johnson scored a wrist shot goal that was assisted by Nikita Kucherov and Victor Hedman. It was too little too late as the Kings held on to win 3-2.
For the Kings Jonathan Quick recorded 23 saves. The win keeps up the momentum as the streak has now hit five.
Up next for the Kings is the Colorado Avalanche on Wednesday night. Let’s keep it going Kings!
