Monday was the first time that Richards threw a bullpen sessions since he had knee surgery last year. Although he threw just 20 pitches this was a big step for him as he has been progressing quite well this offseason.
Richards was having his best season of his career before going down with the injury. He is still a few weeks away from being able to throw for extensive amounts of time but he is aiming to be ready by opening day.
Pitchers will report to camp on Friday for the Angels as Spring Training is just around the corner. Angels pitcher coach Mike Butcher is unsure when Richards next bullpen session will be but the team will be sure to be cautious with the 26-year 0ld.
