Local Little League 2019

Little League returned! After a seemingly-endless stoppage, we’re finally back! All-star tournaments leading up to the Little League World Series (LLWS) are set to start. And, CaliSports News promises to keep readers up-to-date on the action every step of the way.

This year’s version of the LLWS held each summer in South Williamsport, PA., will rock a new look. Only United States teams will compete. Similarly, the annual West Region tournament played in San Bernardino will likewise change its format. Four teams instead of six shall receive an invite. One of those four will represent Southern California. Normally, approximately 300 local leagues vie to become that representative. Sadly, many of SoCal’s 300 chose to not participate.

Local action.

Southern California groups its local leagues into 39 geographical districts. As explained at length in Southern California Little League: “Season Over!”, one of those 39 practically owns SoCal. That of course is California District 42. Teams from eight of that elite district’s nine leagues will compete. CaliSports News often refers to District 42 as “The Little League Capital of America”.

That district’s Sweetwater Valley Little League of Bonita currently reigns as Southern California’s champion. In fact, Sweetwater Valley reigned for almost two years. Bonita’s local league captured that crown in 2019. The last time a league outside of District 42 won SoCal’s title happened back in 2017. Prior to then, 2014. Before that, 2012. Pure domination. We shall soon learn if District 42 continues its incredible dominance. Stay tuned !! Until then, Let’s Go SoCal !!

My two shekels.

Finally, CaliSports News mourns the loss of District 42’s umpire Sam Aleman. CSN featured that longtime ump in Let’s Meet District 42’s Men In Blue, Luckie Waller’s Female Star Continues To Shine, and Umpire Inspires With Big Heart And Artificial Foot. Aleman also served as a former president of Luckie Waller Little League in South San Diego. As a pillar of SoCal’s Little League community, and a friend to CSN, Aleman shall be missed. And, those are my two shekels.
