MLB: Mike Trout Wins 2014 Hank Aaron Award

Ahead of the World Series final between the San Francisco Giants and the Kansas City Royals, the MLB have awarded Mike Trout and Giancarlo Stanton the 2013 Hank Aaron Award.

They both received their awards in a press conference by commissioner Bud Selig and the man himself, Hall-of-Fame Hank Aaron.

This accolade is awarded each year to the best overall offensive performer in both the American League and National League. First presented in 1999 to pay homage to the 25th anniversary of Hank Aaron breaking Babe Ruth’s all-time home run record, the Hank Aaron Award is the first major award to be introduced to baseball in 30 years.

Mike Trout is the third American League player to win the award since 2009; Jose Bautista won it in 2010-11 and Miguel Cabrera won it in each of the past two seasons.

Mike Trout of the Angels, hit .287/.377/.561 with 39 doubles, nine triples, 36 homers and 111 RBI.

He led the AL in home runs, RBI, runs and total bases.

Mike Trout had the third-best OPS in the American League at .939. He tied for third in home runs with Jose Abreu at 36, and led the league in runs scored with 115 and RBI with 111.
