LA Clippers: Analyzing Kawhi Leonard’s First Triple-Double

LA Clippers

After a rough and tumble comeback game for the LA Clippers last night, Kawhi Leonard had booked himself his first career triple-double in a 122-117 win over the Miami Heat. It was an incredible performance that was lacking both Paul George and Patrick Beverley, and he did it despite his team being down fifteen half-way through the first quarter. Let us take a look at what made this possible.

Just two days after blowing a twenty-one point lead in the second half against the Atlanta Hawks, the Clippers were determined to right the ship as soon as possible, and they did so under the leadership of the Claw. In just thirty-nine minutes, Kawhi had thirty-three points, ten assists, and ten rebounds. Thanks to the incredible shooting of Landry Shamet and his twenty-two points, Kawhi thrived and blasted the Heat. It was Shamet’s sixth game with double-digit points, and he has been red hot since that 128-103 Clippers rout over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The win portion of this accomplishment was thanks to an explosive second quarter performance from the team that saw them score forty-one points on a tough Miami defense. Montrezl Harrell and Lou Williams chipped in with fifteen and sixteen points each, and JaMychal Green put the cherry on top with his own fourteen-point performance. The fourth quarter was another rough one that saw the Clippers outscored thirty-two to twenty-one, but they hung in there long enough to get the win.

Perhaps not as amazing as Kawhi’s forty-three points in twenty-nine minutes from that Cleveland blowout, his first career triple-double was still a team booster that saw them overcome fabricated media controversy and lost confidence from that previous loss. And perhaps being a team builder is better than being an individual wrecking ball. In the case of Kawhi Leonard, he is both in several ways. Despite what some people say about his worth during the regular season, Kawhi gets it done no matter what time it is.

In closing, Kawhi Leonard’s first triple-double carried the LA Clippers to a very solid win over the second-place Miami Heat and it sparked the rest of the team to soar to new heights. Lou Williams, Montrezl Harrell, Landry Shamet, JaMychal Green, and Patrick Patterson all came out of that game with double-digit points, and that was just enough support for Kawhi to finally get his first triple-double. Even better than the triple-double was the fact that Kawhi jumpstarted the rest of the team after a very rough week. The Clippers will head over to Orlando to face the Magic for their next game tomorrow at 3:00 pm PDT.
