The fallout from the Houston Astros cheating and stealing signs had substantial consequences for the baseball organization as an end result.
100 years after the Chicago White Sox threw the World Series, we have another scandal that shocked the Baseball world. Major League Baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred dropped the hammer on the Houston Astros organization and the Owner Jim Crane wasted no time to dismiss both the team’s manager and general manager.
Plain and simple, Baseball had to do this to protect the integrity of the game and to enforce the fairness of the game. This is a totally embarrassing moment for a team to use technology to gain an edge.
The game of baseball is a game of strategic moves and there are signs and movements by the pitchers, catchers, base coaches, and managers. Players can figure out tendencies without the help of Apple Watch’s and or by banging on trash cans. The penalty was severe but you have to give it to the Commissioner and the Astros owner for protecting the game of baseball.
The fallout is now complete, The Boston Red Sox and the New York Mets have fired their managers because of this scandal. Carlos Beltran was hired as the New York Mets manager in the offseason but mutually agreed to resign after being named in the Commissioners investigation.
In conclusion, this draws the question of what happens to the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Dodgers lost back to back World Series to the Astros in 2017 and to the Red Sox in 2018. What should Major League Baseball do? Vacate the championship or award it to the Dodgers?
