Rams to undergo major changes

As the Los Angeles Rams get ready to move into their new venue known as Sofi Stadium, they will bring some fresh faces with them. A fury of moves has taken place in the last few days, and the Rams now have work to do. They must replace a coach on all fronts. As soon as the coaching staff is set, the focus will turn to the roster. As for right now, several interviews will take place over the next couple of weeks. After a disappointing 2019, a fresh start is most likely the best route to take.
First off, the Rams will start a search for a new defensive coordinator. Wade Phillips was told his contract would not be renewed this year. The Rams defense played well at times, but there were a few games where there was a poor game plan. One example is when Tampa Bay came to town and walked away with a 55-40 victory. Another example was on Monday Night Football when the Ravens humiliated the Rams with a 45-6 win. More recently, the Rams traveled to Dallas and lost that game by a score of 44-21. Obviously with as much talent as the Rams have, those types of games should not occur.
Next on the list, they will need to find a special teams coordinator. The Cowboys announced the hiring of John Fassel. One could see how the Rams would be looking in a different direction. In Week 17 against the Cardinals, the Rams decided to go for it on 4th down, well inside their own field territory. The Rams fell short, and the result ended with a Cardinals touchdown almost immediately, which at the time, gave the Cardinals the lead. One of the rare occasions this year where McVay got heated on the sidelines.
Another coaching move to announce, is the running back coach. The Rams parted ways with Skip Peete. The use of Todd Gurley this year left many asking questions. Although, usage or lack there of would fall to McVay. However the running game did take a step back this year. This will most likely happen last, but the choice will be interesting to say the least. McVay will have his hands full going forward, and Rams fans should sit comfortably with him at the helm.
Under McVay’s coaching staff, the Rams won two division titles, and an NFC Champiship. They also accomplished three straight winning seasons. Given how tough the NFC is each year, these are not small feats. This year the NFC West alone combined for 38 wins. Without question, the division is going to be tough for the foreseeable future. Thankfully, the Rams have the right people in charge right now, and should be able to compete with whatever obstacles await them.
