Angels No-Hit Seattle, On A Very Special Night

The Los Angeles Angels returned home after the All-Star break for the first time since the sudden death of pitcher Tyler Skaggs. The Angels made history last night with their second combined no-hitter over the Seattle Mariners in a 13-0 rout.

Felix Pena and Tyler Cole together pitched nine complete innings to preserve the team’s second no-hitter. The first time the combined no-hitter occurred happened 29 years ago against the Mariners by two Angels legions Mark Langston and Mike Witt in April of 1990.

The game was over in the bottom of the first inning when the Angels scored seven times. Mike Trout hit a 464 ft two-run homer to center to give the Halos a two-run lead. Later in the inning Trout came through with a two-run double, after the team racked up a five-run lead giving the Angels a 7-0 advantage.

This was a very emotional night, with the Angels still in trying to cope with the loss of their teammate. The entire team honored Skaggs with all players wearing the number 45. His mother threw out the first pitch and the heavy-hearted players and fans knew that this would be a very special night.

After the game, Mike Trout was quoted “We all got together in Texas and thought it would be a great honor to wear Skaggs and the number 45 on our back, and we all agreed this would be a great way to
honor him.”

Then Halos after the win all placed the number 45 jerseys on the pitcher’s mound to show respect and as a remembrance of their teammate.
