The Los Angeles Lakers beat the Chicago Bulls tonight 123-118 at home in LA after double overtime.

The Lakers Twitter account breaks down the team’s stats of the night:

It was a big night for both teams as former and beloved Laker Pau Gasol returned to the Staples Center. The Lakers played a tribute video for him and a standing ovation erupted. It was also a big night for Carlos Boozer as he was playing against his former team as well.

The Lakers took the lead early in the first and held onto it for the better part of the game. By the end of the first quarter, the Lakers led the Chicago Bulls  28-19 and Carlos Boozer had six points and two rebounds.

Boozer showed the Bulls what they missed out on by amnestying him. Midway through the second he was already into double-digits, and by halftime the Lakers were up 59-48 and Boozer was up to 14 points.

Gasol played well throughout, and Derrick Rose had flashes of brilliance, but he would eventually choke when it mattered.

By the third, the Lakes had taken the score to 69-58 and Robert Sacre found a little rhythm for himself to succeed. By the end of the third, the Bulls managed to narrow the Laker’s lead, setting the score at 80-76 going into the fourth.

Jordan Hill became the Lakers savior tonight as he hit numerous clutch shots! He tied the game in overtime, and stopped the Lakers from setting a new record for the worst losing streak.

Wayne Ellington gave the Lakers the lead in double overtime with a jump shot as Jordan Clarkson locked down Brooks to force a 24 second violation, and a reverse lay-up from Ellington brought the score to 110-106. Clarkson responded to Pau Gasol’s basket by hitting a jumper to keep the Lakers lead steady at four. The Bulls resorted to fouling and the Lakers were able to bring out the W!

Up next the Lakers will travel to New York to take on the Knicks on Sunday!
