Hollywood Blvd. News – Los Angeles Dodgers Edition
- Updated: October 23, 2014
We like to start our day searching the web and reading articles about our beloved LA sports teams. It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While the Dodgers fans sit and stew about the Giants World Series hopes, the San Francisco Giants are soaring. LA Times writer Chris Erskine discusses the phenomenon.
“I just want to see a great series,” says disaffected Dodgers fan Daniel Ramos. “I want K.C. to win. I don’t want to see anyone suffer — unless it’s the Giants.”
In perhaps baseball’s best rivalry, the tensions between the Dodgers and Giants date to 1884, when the teams first met in an exhibition. The teams have played 2,402 times, which is 249 more games than in the vaunted Yankees-Red Sox matchup. In a remarkably close series, San Francisco has a 17-game edge.
In fact, one of the most famous quips in sports, Leo Durocher’s “Nice guys finish last,” was directed at Giants Manager Mel Ott back when both teams played in New York. The mood hasn’t settled down much since.
Once crosstown malcontents, they now represent culturally distinct areas of a baseball-crazed state. This year, the Dodgers finished six games ahead of their division rivals, including a 17-0 drubbing in San Francisco.
“It’s hard to see them in the World Series when you know [the Dodgers] are the better team,” Ramos says of the wild-card Giants.
“I hate the Giants more than any other team,” explains John Yancey as the Giants leap to a 5-0 lead Tuesday. “Not a violent hate. Just a hate.”

And if you like rumors complete speculation, we have an article for you. Check out some of the thoughts revolving around Andrew Friedman and David Price.
“Trade David Price.
Paul lists two likely landing spots should the Tigers decide to move the former Cy Young winner, and coming in first was the Dodgers. (The Red Sox was the other).
That’s interesting for several reasons: 1) The Dodgers were one of the teams involved in trade talks with the Tampa Rays for Price before he was ultimately dealt at the trading deadline to the Tigers; 2) the Rays general manager at the time was Andrew Friedman; and 3) last week Friedman was named the Dodgers’ president of baseball operations.
While in town Friday, Friedman was asked how close he came to trading Price to the Dodgers:
“You know, that’s a really interesting thing because I don’t comment about specific players and, like trade discussions, but I’m obviously not with the Rays anymore and David obviously didn’t get traded here. We had a lot of different conversations with teams. I don’t know how you can characterize ‘close’ until a deal gets done.”
