Clippers Nation, We Deserve This One
- Updated: April 16, 2019
While I’m not one to usually wax poetic on one NBA game, especially game 2 of a 7 game playoff series, this one was special.
After trailing by 31 points in the second half, the LA Clippers completed the greatest comeback in playoff history against the two-time defending champion Golden State Warriors on their own court last night.
Let that sink in.
This game saw the Warriors shoot an almost inconceivable 45 free throws, making 40 of them. Steph Curry dropped in 29 points, followed closely by Kevin Durant with 21 and you guessed it Kevon Looney with 19.
The “star-less” Clippers meanwhile had two bench players put up double-doubles. A fiery point guard with just 10 points. An Italian forward with 24. And two rookies who respectively led the game in steals and hit the game winning shot.
Not too shabby for a team that looked down and out by the time TNT rolled out their halftime report.
Golden State should’ve known better than to coast.
This Clippers team is the only in NBA history to now have 3 comebacks of 25 or more points in a season. They just don’t know how to quit was the quote from the great Ralph Lawler.
While I’m sure our fellow Staples Center tenants along with some other NBA fan-bases are rolling their eyes and ripping message boards at the idea of “Ballz” and the Clipper faithful celebrating a game 2 victory like we deserve a banner let me say one thing on behalf of Clipper Nation.
We deserve this fucking game.
