Comeback Clippers Close Out Hornets 117-115

Clippers

The dreaded Grammy road trip has shown that the Clippers can be consistently inconsistent. They entered Monday’s game against the Hornets with a momentum building comeback win in Detroit, followed by a deflating blowout loss in Toronto.

Planning to get some of that momentum back in Charlotte, the Clippers didn’t exactly get off to an ideal start. Hornets guard Kemba Walker helped get his team out to an early lead by knocking in 25 points in the first half. Walker and the Hornets stretched that lead to as many as 20 by the third quarter.

As we found out against the Pistons, this Clippers team is never out of a game. A 16-4 LA run to end the third helped narrow that lead to single-digits. It was a huge finish to the quarter by the duo of Lou Williams and Tobias Harris that helped them claw their way back.

Williams went on a scoring tear and finished the night with 31 points and 6 assists. Meanwhile Harris was feeling all aspects of his game with 34 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists before this one was over.

Something LA had going their way all game long was the three ball. The team shot an incredible 75% from beyond the arc for the game, with Williams and Harris remarkably shooting 5-6 and 6-7 from long range respectively.

The scoring burst from Williams and that scorching hot shooting from deep by the Clippers helped them gain the lead in the final minutes. But it was a clutch floater from Harris with just 4.3 seconds remaining that sealed the 117-115 Clippers victory.

This was a huge win for LA regarding the playoff race with their Staples Center roommates the Lakers, as the loss in Indiana for them gave the Clippers another game edge for the eighth seed. The Clippers will had to Indiana next to see if they can fare better than their Los Angeles adversaries against the Pacers.
