Anaheim Ducks Execute With New Faces

It seems that The Anaheim Ducks front office have some ideas up their sleeve. Upsetting as it is as a fan to see a much-loved player leave your beloved team, you don’t have the slightest idea what is happening behind closed doors. If anyone knows what is beneficial to their team it’s going to be head coaches and the management. Working with players to find a solution is a must and it seems the Ducks front office has finally made some “good” decisions for their team. The second win against The New Jersey Devils after a horrible twelve game losing streak for the Ducks proves that this trade has its potential.

The beginning first five minutes of the first period was a slow waddle to find some footing. The Anaheim Ducks were having trouble right off with getting back to their defensive end after an offensive play. The New Jersey Devils take advantage and Jesper Bratt looks for Marcus Johansson for a backhand goal early within the eighth minute of play for New Jersey. Then shortly after Daniel Sprong catches a rebound off Adam Henrique who was in front of the net for a beautiful signature kneel down a shot to tie the game at one apiece. The New Jersey bench challenges the goal for an offside goal. But, with further review, Anaheim is onside for a good goal. The New Jersey Devils penalized for delay of game. All this within ten minutes of the first period. After much pressure put on by the Anaheim Ducks power play, forward Troy Terry gets his first career NHL goal with a snapshot to the back of the net. Not without some help from the new face Devon Shore who had the screen in front of the net for the Ducks first lead of the game. The first period ends with the Anaheim Ducks 2 and The New Jersey Devils 1.

The second period begins with some big saves for John Gibson. John Gibson is starting to take a barrage of shots from New Jersey. Kyle Palmieri was relentless on John Gibson in the second. The puck flies in front of an open net for a chance for New Jersey to capitalize but John Gibson catches a major break. Sami Vatanen takes a huge shot but John Gibson is able to cover it up. The Anaheim Ducks catch a break with a power play. The New Jersey Devils Jacob Larsson is penalized for interference. New Jersey is able to clear the power play and as Jacob Larsson comes out of the penalty box he gets a chance at a shot on goal but, again John Gibson with the glove save. The save ends the power play for New Jersey. Kyle Palmieri and The New Jersey Devils put on some physical pressure on the Ducks defense. The New Jersey Devils seemed to pick it up after the second half of the second period. The Anaheim defense starts to collapse after taking multiple shots on goal. At this moment New Jersey ends up getting a power play. Nick Ritchie is charged with tripping. Ducks are super vulnerable after the many shots and New Jersey is definitely looking to capitalize. Jesper Bratt catches a moment for a pass to Damon Severson for a shot but Gibson with another major cover-up save for another penalty kill. Anaheim Ducks are barely able to hold on to kill the power play. Anaheim tries to turn it around for a second with Ryan Getzlaf taking a shot on goal but comes up short. Anaheim Ducks are able to hold onto the lead at the end of the second period not without a short tussle between the two teams. The New Jersey Devils outshoot the Anaheim Ducks in the second though with 14 shots to 3. John Gibson continues to play a major role for this team.

The third period begins quickly again for John Gibson. He gets worked up front with a couple of shots in the first five minutes of play in the third. The Anaheim Ducks are able to finally get the puck to the other side. Troy Terry plays along the backboard for a setup pass to Derek Grant to get the goal with a shot to the inside post for the score. The Anaheim Ducks secure their lead at three with fourteen minutes left in the third. Sami Vatanen comes up with the puck for some more shots on goal but John Gibson denies him once again. New Jersey begins to pick up the pace. Cam Fowler comes up with a huge defensive play. Ryan Getzlaf finds Richard Rakell open for a chance to score but New Jerseys Goalie Mackenzie Blackwood makes the save. Unfortunately for Anaheim, New Jersey gets a much-needed power play. Cam Fowler gets picked up for cross-checking. Hampus Lindholm makes a huge defensive play. Derek Grant also gets a chance to clear the puck for the penalty kill. New Jersey’s Damon Severson comes up with the puck for a shot on John Gibson but comes up short. New Jersey pulls their goalie Mackenzie Blackwood with three minutes remaining. New Jersey’s Dustin Bratt takes a shot with less than two minutes left in the game and gets one past John Gibson. The New Jersey Devils turn it into a one-point game with 55.1 seconds left, keeping their goalie pulled and leaving their net wide open. With their one-man advantage, they try to win the face off for a shot on goal. But the Anaheim Ducks defense pays off with Devon Shore firing on the empty net but missing, earning an icing call. With 38.7 seconds left remaining in the third period, The New Jersey Devils win the face off for a shot but to no avail. The puck ends up on other end of the ice with Richard Rakell chasing the puck for the last shot on goal but no luck. The Anaheim Ducks hold on for the second win on the road after a horrible 12 game losing streak.

The final score; Anaheim Ducks 3, New Jersey Devils 2. John Gibson continues to play a major role for this team with 31 saves. He is a key component to the Anaheim Ducks. He has proven to be a major asset to this team. Hopefully with the new faces and the growth of this team he can continue to play that major role. Troy Terry gets his very first NHL carrier goal to carry this team to victory. Hopefully, this “good” chemistry continues. Let’s Go Ducks!
