Clippers Collapse In 125-118 Loss To Wizards

Heading to Washington with a five-game winning streak on the line the Los Angeles Clippers faced off with the struggling Wizards.

It’s no secret the Wizards are in turmoil right now. With all of their players considered to be “available” in trade discussions it’s safe to say the lights aren’t shining too brightly in Washington these days. Los Angeles on the other hand is shining brighter than the sun lately and it’s mostly been because of the play of Forward Tobias Harris.

Harris opened up this game with a flurry of buckets, knocking in 18 points in just the opening quarter. Harris drained 4 triples and almost outscored the Wizards by himself in the quarter as they only had 21 points. Beyond that stellar start Harris finished off the game with 29 points and 9 rebounds, going 4-6 from beyond the arc.

The boo birds rang out throughout Capital One Arena as Los Angeles came into their house and led by as many as 20 in the first quarter. Harris was a big reason the Clippers had their most productive quarter of the season, scoring 40 points, but he got some help from a young Guard.

Rookie Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was tremendous on both ends of the floor all night long but he was never more efficient than in that opening quarter. He had 7 points and 2 steals to start things off and would finish the game with 17 points, 3 steals and one uber athletic block on Wizards Forward Otto Porter.

Clinging to an early lead, the momentum in the arena began to switch at the start of the second half. On their second night of a back to back, heavy legs began to overwhelm the Clippers. What was once a 24 point lead in the first half had vanished and the Wizards actually took a slim lead in the final quarter due to the team’s carelessness with the ball, turning the ball over 14 times in the second half.

Los Angeles was in need of some energy to seize the momentum of the contest back. Nobody in the NBA has the energy of Clippers big man Montrezl Harrell and it was evident when he entered the game. Harrell closed the night out with a near double-double notching 20 points and 9 rebounds by the time this one was all over.

That energy wouldn’t be enough to overcome the turnover struggles that plagued the team along with tremendous shooting from Washington’s guard tandem of John Wall and Bradley Beal. The Wizards would come away with the comeback victory 125-118.

A gut-wrenching loss for Los Angeles in what was the biggest blown lead in franchise history. They’ll get a chance to redeem themselves against another struggling team on Friday with the Memphis Grizzlies up next.
