AJ Cassavell of MLB.com also reported the news.
The Padres are indeed promoting Francisco Mejia, as @dennistlin noted. Mejia will join the team in Arizona tonight. He is @MLBPipeline‘s top ranked catching prospect and No. 21 overall. He came to the Padres in July in the Brad Hand deal.

Cassavell added more information.
Mejia’s going to play catcher this month. Ultimately, he could be a guy who shifts between catcher and outfield, leaving playing time for both him and Austin Hedges. But he’s been a catcher at El Paso, and he’ll be a catcher in San Diego for now, too.
