Deng signed a four-year deal with the Lakers worth more than $70 million dollars in an attempt to get the club back into the playoffs. Once the team moved on from Byron Scott and went for more of a youth movement Deng was clearly no longer part of the plans.
He has not seen much action for the Lakers under head coach Luke Walton and with the addition of LeBron James there is no room on the roster for Deng.
The Lakers could not find any trade partners for him and the stretch provison was the best the club could do.
