Padres Lose 9-4
- Updated: August 19, 2018
On Friday, the Padres continued to struggle as they lost to the D-backs 9-4. The loss marks the fifth straight for San Diego. The Padres have also lost five consecutive games at home against the D-backs. Due to the loss, San Diego is 3-7 in their last ten games, and they are twenty-one games back from first place. Starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi lasted only four innings, giving up five runs. Unfortunately for the Padres, Arizona would continue to hit well as they scored four more runs off the bullpen. In total, San Diego allowed nine runs on thirteen hits.
As for the offense, they scored, but they could not score enough. Right fielder Hunter Renfroe drove in a run off a sacrifice fly. Center fielder Manuel Margot knocked in a run after he hit a solo home run. However, the key offensive player was the first baseman, Eric Hosmer. Hosmer drove in two runs, one of them being an opposite-field home run.
Up next for San Diego, the Padres will continue their four-game series with the D-backs on Saturday. San Diego will send to the mound left-hander Clayton Richard. After a nice start against the Angels, Richard will look to repeat it as the Padres will try to snap their losing streak.
