- Updated: August 13, 2018
On Sunday afternoon, the Padres offense broke out for nine runs. Sunday’s game was a true all-around win as the Padres pitched, and hit well. Starting pitcher Joey Lucchesi had a great start, throwing six scoreless innings. As a result of his start, the bullpen had a short day, as they went three innings, giving up three runs.
After a tough loss on Saturday, the offense had a quick turn around. Shortstop Freddy Galvis hit his first career grand slam, as he continued his revenge against his former team. In addition to Galvis, center fielder Travis Jankowski reached safely four times and stole four bases. Additionally, first baseman Eric Hosmer contributed by driving in a run as well. Also, catcher A.J. Ellis knocked in a run with a sacrifice fly. The Padres caught some luck in the game, as the Phillies defense committed some costly errors. As a result San Diego scored three unearned runs in the game.
Up next for San Diego, they will open a series on Monday, against the Los Angeles Angels. The Padres will send to the mound Clayton Richard. Richard is 7-10 with a 5.13 earned run average this season.
