Padres top Phillies 2-0
- Updated: August 11, 2018
On Friday evening, the youth movement in San Diego was in full force. The Padres had called up rookie Jacob Nix to make his big league debut. Nix made a great first impression. After loading the bases in the first, Nix would cruise for the remainder of the game. Jacob Nix earned a win in his first start, as he pitched six scoreless innings while striking out four. The bullpen would go on to close out the remainder of the game, pitching three scoreless innings.
As for the offense, the Padres scored when they needed to. Shortstop Freddy Galvis continued to burn his former club when he drove in a run in the second inning. The other run came from an Austin Hedges solo home run in the fourth. San Diego was held scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Up next for San Diego, the Padres will continue their series with the Phillies on Saturday afternoon, as they will send to the mound Walker Lockett. Lockett will be looking to bounce back after a rough start in Milwaukee. Obviously, Lockett and the Padres will be looking for better results in his next start.
