Padres Fall To Cubs 5-4

On Friday afternoon, the Padres dropped a tough one to the Cubs. San Diego had some questionable calls go against them, which had some lasting effects on the game. In the second inning, third baseman Christian Villanueva had a ball hit him on his left forearm. San Diego would challenge the call, but lose it upon review. Due to this result, the Padres lost their challenge for the remainder of the game. This would help the Cubs later on in the game, picking up an extra run. In the fifth inning, with the Cubs were up 2-1, the Padres would appear to throw a runner out at the plate trying to score. He was called safe, and San Diego could not challenge.

San Diego starting pitcher Tyson Ross, he threw five innings, giving up three earned runs. Reliever Robert Stock would follow with two innings, giving up an earned run. The last reliever to pitch for San Diego was Jordan Lyles, who pitched an inning, and gave up a run.

The offense for San Diego fought hard, but it was not enough. The Padres collectively tallied four runs on eight hits. Chicago was up 5-2 going into the ninth. San Diego rallied for two runs, and at one point, even put the tying run at third base.

Up next for San Diego, the Padres will continue their series with the Cubs on Saturday afternoon. San Diego will send to the mound Walker Lockett. Lockett is getting a spot start due to Joey Lucchesi having a stomach illness.
