Padres Fall To D-backs 9-4
- Updated: July 29, 2018
The San Diego Padres lost another series Saturday evening, as Arizona beat them 9-4. Starting pitcher Tyson Ross had one bad inning in which he walked the bases loaded. All of those walks came around to score. Due to the rough second inning, Tyson was only able to last five innings, giving up four earned runs. Following Ross, was reliever Jose Castillo, who pitched two-thirds of a scoreless inning. Reliever Craig Stammen was able to get the last out in the sixth and pitch a scoreless seventh. Unfortunately for San Diego, the bullpen would give up five runs in the later innings. Reliever Phil Maton only lasted a third of an inning, giving up two earned runs. San Diego then sent to the mound Kirby Yates, as he threw two-thirds of an inning, giving up an earned run. Then, in the ninth, reliever Phil Hughes allowed an earned run.
Offensively, San Diego just could not match Arizona. Center fielder Manuel Margot collected a run batted in, as he extended his hitting streak. Left fielder Wil Myers knocked in a pair of runs with a double. The last run batted in came from starting pitcher Tyson Ross when he singled home a run.
Up next for San Diego, they will try to salvage a game in the series Sunday afternoon. The Padres will send to the mound left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Lucchesi is 5-5 this season with a 3.34 earned run average this season.
