An Inside Look At Lakers Draft Moritz Wagner
- Updated: June 24, 2018
One of the reasons for the University Of Michigan’s success on the hardwood last season was the play of Moritz Wagner.
Michigan lost in the National Championship to Villanova 79-62 in his final game, but a season of improvement put Wagner on the NBA’s radar of talent for the 2018 Draft.
Wagner was slated as the 5th rated Power-Forward in this draft, an excellent shooter for his size at 7’0, 240 pounds. He should fit in perfectly with the Lakers alongside Brooke Lopez in the front-court. In the three years at Michigan,
Wagner raised his scoring average from 2.9 to 14.6.
Rebounding is something that needs some work, he only averaged 7.1 in his final season. Not known as a shot-blocker, but very mobile and angle for his size, but with work on defense he should be better in both categories. He’s a great passer, crafty, and is able to box-out opponents inside the paint.
Wagner has a high basketball IQ and will give the Lakers another young big body. The Lakers will be working on these
areas to improve his game and hopefully, he can turn become a dominant force for this team. He has been compared to Dirk Nowitzki but he young and only time will tell if he’s able to handle the pro game.
