Clippers Get Gilgeous-Alexander and Robinson In Draft
- Updated: June 21, 2018
Did anybody really expect the Clippers to just go through the motions and select players with their 12th and 13th picks on Draft night?
It sure seemed that way as the night carried on. With Michael Porter Jr tumbling down draft boards and falling right into the Clippers lap at number 12, chaos erupted.
Clippers will send the 12th pick and two second-round picks to Hornets for Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, league sources said. https://t.co/IfMknfp5Hm

Gilgeous-Alexander out of Kentucky has been talked about as a Clippers favorite in the days leading up to the draft and apparently he was worth quite a bit to the team. Giving up two second round picks to move up just one pick is a bold move by Clippers executives Lawrence Frank and Jerry West but it was one they felt necessary to get a player they coveted.
Gilegous-Alexander (19) played just one season with the Wildcats and put up some impressive numbers. The 6’6″ guard managed 14.4 points and 5.1 assists per game. Gilgeous-Alexander shot 40% from beyond the arc and 49% from the field in his time playing college ball. His length at the position is what made him such an intriguing prospect coming into the draft.
Speaking of West. His hands were all over the 13th pick, which the team held on to. Jerome Robinson out of Boston College has been touted as West’s favorite player in this draft for weeks now. However the 21 year-old was not considered a lottery pick by very many due to his deficiencies on the defensive side of the floor.
While Robinson will need to put in some work on the defensive end, offensively he has been compared to Jamal Crawford for his ability to put the ball in the hoop effortlessly. Robinson averaged 20.7 points per game his junior year while managing to shoot 49% from the field and 41% from three. Robinson will add a scoring punch to the Clippers guard lineup that as of right now is pretty jammed up.
