It’s easy to get lost in the depth of the inter web, but luckily for you we have compiled a list of the most interesting and pertinent news stories for your morning reading pleasure. For this edition, let’s dive into the news surrounding the San Diego Padres.
UT San Diego discuss the burning questions about the San Diego Padres’ shortstops:
“Like it or not, and his agent certainly doesn’t, Trea Turner is on his way off the Padres’ farm. As soon as he’s eligible for a trade this June, the Padres’ 13th overall pick from the 2014 draft will head to the Washington Nationals to put the finishing touches on the three-team deal that brought Wil Myers to San Diego.
A hefty price, to be sure.
Especially considering that the Padres’ farm system wasn’t exactly teeming with shortstop talent before Turner was pegged as the heir apparent to Everth Cabrera last summer.
Now, neither shortstop is part of the organization (the next closest-to-the-majors option, Jace Peterson, was also traded this winter). While that certainly leaves the big league team with plenty of questions heading into the 2015 season – Will Alexi Amarista hold down the fort?”

“Just when it appears the Padres offseason is finally drawing to a close, rumblings of another blockbuster deal start to surface. This particular trade is centered around Philadelphia Phillies Ace Cole Hamels. Hamels was drafted by the Phillies in 2002, 17th overall. He grew up in San Diego and attended Rancho Bernardo High School in Northern San Diego County. That right there adds some intrigue to this deal. Bringing in a hometown kid, especially one of Hamels’ skill level would be huge for the Padres and vault them into almost certainly being contenders in the National League West this season. Should A.J. Preller pull the trigger on yet another blockbuster deal?
Why Cole Hamels? Hamels in his tenure with Philadelphia won a World Series, was also the World Series MVP, and was elected to three All-Star Games. Hamels just wrapped up his 9th major league season, in his career he has compiled 108 wins, posting a 3.27 ERA with a dazzling 1.14 WHIP. Last season, Hamels put together a 9-9 season with a career-low 2.46 ERA and he finished 6th in Cy Young Award voting.”
