Clippers Get 12th And 13th Picks In Lottery
- Updated: May 15, 2018
The NBA draft lottery took place Tuesday night with the Los Angeles Clippers holding the opportunity to end up with 2 picks. The last time the Clippers were in the Draft Lottery was 2010 when the team ended up with the 8th pick. They selected current Portland Trailblazer Al-Farouq Aminu just one year after taking Blake Griffin first overall.
The Clippers had their own pick valued as the 13th heading into the lottery and the Detroit Pistons pick, acquired in the Blake Griffin trade, valued as the 12th. Important to remember that the Pistons pick was top 4 protected, meaning if the pick ended up in the top 4 it would’ve remained with Detroit.
As NBA fans everywhere broke out their lucky rabbits foots, the Clippers learned their fate early on in the selection process. As expected Los Angeles ended up with the 12th and 13th picks in the upcoming draft.
This was a likely scenario for the Clippers and unless their own pick wound up in the top 3, it was the best scenario. With two lottery picks the team will have 2 chances to hit on draft picks and potentially turn them back into a playoff team as quickly as possible.
Clippers General Manager Lawrence Frank and front office advisor Jerry West will have the majority of say in who the team will pick. ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski stated prior to the lottery that Frank has scouted collegiate and European prospects as much as anybody in the draft.
The draft will take place on June 21st at Barclays Center in New York, the home of the Nets.
