Clippers Rally To 117-106 Win In Toronto

Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers went to the Air Canada Centre in Toronto Sunday to take on the Eastern Conference leading Raptors. As if having an injury depleted roster against one of the league’s hottest teams didn’t make this game difficult enough, Toronto is also the best home team in the league this season.

At the outset things were not going well for Los Angeles. Toronto jumped out to a 17-4 lead as the Clippers looked lethargic and disinterested after a tough loss on Friday that essentially eliminated the team from playoff contention in the Western Conference. Trailing by as many as 18 in the opening quarter, the Clippers managed to work their way back into the game and trail by just 7 by the time the quarter ended.

The key to this game for Los Angeles was chipping away after putting themselves in such a deep hole to get things started. Consistent scoring from Tobias Harris, who ended the game with 20 points, played a factor in the Clippers comeback.

Harris helped his squad cut into that deficit but it was Montrezl Harrell coming off the bench that put Los Angeles over the top. Harrell finished the game with 19 points and 6 rebounds, providing that ever important spark and helping the team gain the lead for the first time in the third quarter.

A fantastic start to the fourth quarter saw the Clippers grow their lead to double-digits. The Raptors showed some fight of their own and were able to narrow the deficit to just 5 with minutes remaining. But another solid final quarter by the NBA’s leader in fourth quarter scoring Lou Williams helped put the game out of reach. Williams had 18 points in the fourth quarter alone and finished this one with a game-high 26 points and 7 assists coming off the bench.

Los Angeles came out on top 117-106 in front of a silenced home crowd.

The Clippers chances of getting into the playoffs remain bleak but not impossible. The team will need some help with losses by the Nuggets, Jazz and Timberwolves moving forward and more games like this one that result in big wins.

The team returns home for their next matchup on Tuesday against a Milwaukee Bucks team they beat last Wednesday.
