Weekly Reign Wrap-up: Two Wins Boost Team
- Updated: February 27, 2018
With two wins over the last week, the Ontario Reign creep ever closer to the playoffs with hopes of joining in on the dance. Though in fifth place in the Pacific Division at 26-19-3-1 and 56 points, the Reign are three losses behind the first-place Tuscon Roadrunners, and percentage points out of second. The next game is against the San Antonio Rampage at 7 p.m., Wednesday, February 28 at the Citizens Bank Arena.
In the Wednesday, February 21 win, the Reign owned the first and third period, only giving up two goals in the middle period, on its way to a 5-2 victory over the San Jose Barracuda. Goals from Matt Moulson, Brett Sutter, Justin Auger, T.J. Hensick and Andrew Crescenzi led the team as goalie Cal Petersen stopped 19 of 21 shots.
In the Saturday victory, Ontario outshot the Bakersfield Condors 30-21 on its way to a 3-2 win, as Petersen matched his previous effort with 19 saves on 2 shots. Trailing 2 -1 halfway through the third, Sutter and Moulson both scored their 11th of the season, giving the team the victory. Hensick also picked up two assists.
Petersen is in net, backed up by recently acquired Scott Wedgewood, as Jack Campbell has been sent up the NHL affiliate Los Angeles Kings.
