Lakers Suffer A Setback In Dallas, 130-123

The Los Angeles Lakers four-game winning streak ended with a 130-123 loss to the Dallas Mavericks in Dallas.

Newly acquired point guard Isaiah Thomas made his Lakers debut wearing the number 7 of the former Laker Larry Nance Jr. Thomas entered the game off the bench with 5:09 left in the first quarter and connected for his first attempt, a three-pointer off a perfectly set screen assisted by Julius Randle. The team played with a very high sense of energy and teamwork to get Thomas into the flow of team’s system. Thomas played 31 minutes, scoring 22 points on 7 of 12 from the field, 4 of 8 from the three-point line with 6 assists and 6 turnovers and 5 fouls.

The Lakers simply ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, after holding a one-point lead at halftime, the Mavericks gained momentum taking a 100-95 lead into the fourth quarter. Sloppy defense and no help on defense haunted the Lakers in the final period. The Mavericks front-court won this game, with uncontested shots on the outside by Dirk Nowitzki and Doug McDermott, and second-chance inside plays by Dwight Powell, Max Kleber, and Salah Mejri left the Laker big men guessing.

Julius Randle had another big night against the Mavs, he led the Lakers in scoring with 26 points and 8 rebounds before he fouled out with 17.7 seconds left in the game. Brandon Ingram scored 22 points and was very effective from the three-point line going 4-5.

In the end result, the 123 output was the second highest scoring of the season thus far, as the Mavericks spoil the beginning of the Isaiah Thomas era.

NEXT UP FOR THE LAKERS:

The Lakers will travel to New Orleans to take on the Pelicans on Valentine’s Day. This will be first of a back to back before ending the first half of the season in Minnesota on Thursday night before the All-Star break.
