“Weekly” Reign Wrap-up – Team is 5-2 Over Past 2 Weeks

All right, this JUST in. Two weeks worth of Ontario Reign to catch up on! This will cover some good ground.

When we last saw our reigning heroes, they had just split two games with the first place Tucson Roadrunners and were hovering over the last place in the Pacific Division with 34 points. Two weeks later, after going an impressive 5-2, the team is 39-21-16-1-1 in fifth place with 44 points, three points behind the first place Roadrunners. Next on the schedule is the Rockford IceHogs at 5 p.m. pst, Friday, January 26 in an away game.

So what have we missed?

  • January 10 – Loss to Rockford IceHogs 5-2

The IceHogs’ W Pelletier scored a hat trick to lift him and his team over the Reign, who had goals from Johnny Brodzinski and Michael Mersch, both in the first period. Though the Reign outshot the IceHogs 35-24, the Rockford team had the most goals by games end.

  • January 13 – Win over Chicago Wolves 4-2

In the 4-2 win, The Reign owned the first and third period, scoring twice in each. In the first Mike Amadio and Matt Moulson, and in the third: Mersch and Alex Lintuniemi. The Wolves two scores in the second made it interesting. The third tipped the scales.

  • January 15 – Win over Texas Stars, 3-2

Another victory for the good guys, this time in a shootout following overtime. The Stars are one team the Reign is chasing in the Pacific Division. They got two points closet tonight, outshooting the Stars 40-31. Though the Stars tied the game with 1:02 left in the game, Amadio scored the deciding shootout tally, his second goal of the game.

  • January 17 – Loss against the San Antonio Rampage, 3-1

Coming off a big victory, the Reign lost their offense against the Rampage, shooting only 17 shots compared to 39 for its opponents. The only goal for the Reign came from Jordan Subban with less than a minute to go. That’s taking “too little too late” to an extreme.

  • January 19 – Win over the Stockton Heat, 5-2

The Reign’s power play showed up big in the victory, scoring four out of four opportunities with the man advantage. Goals came from Lintuniemi, Sean Walker, Matt Roy and two from Andrew Crescenzi.

  • January 20 – Win over the Stockton Heat, 4-3

Two games and two wins in a row against the Heat put the Reign above that team in the standings. Ontario struck in each period, getting goals came from Jamie Devane, T.J. Hensick, Philippe Maillet, and Moulson.

With a two-game winning streak and some momentum over the last two weeks under its belt, the Ontario Reign look to continue climbing the Pacific Division rankings on its way to the playoffs.
