Voynov was arrested early this morning and the NHL moved swiftly on a decision to suspend him. It looks like they have learned a thing or two from the NFL on how not to handle a domestic violence situation.
The NHL will begin a formal investigation the matter immediately.
ESPN.com explains the NHL collective agreement rules about a criminal investigation here.
“The League may suspend the Player pending the League’s formal review and disposition of the matter where the failure to suspend the Player during this period would create a substantial risk of material harm to the legitimate interests and/or reputation of the League.”
The loss of Slava Voynov will be a big loss for the Kings until the matter is solved. Voynov played in all 82 games last season for the Kings. He totaled 30 assists during the regular season, and added 7 more in the playoffs as the Kings went on to win the Stanley Cup.
