Williams Drops 50 In Clippers Win Over Warriors

Clippers

Coming off of a home win Monday at Staples Center the Los Angeles Clippers traveled to Oakland Wednesday to take on their Pacific division foes the Golden State Warriors.

Both teams came into the contest with injuries mounting. Blake Griffin, Milos Teodosic and Austin Rivers remained out for this one among the Clippers shorter term injury woes. For the Warriors Steph Curry and Klay Thompson sat this one out, while Kevin Durant returned to action after a multi-game absence from an injury of his own.

Prior to this matchup the Clippers hadn’t beaten the Warriors since 2014, and they hadn’t won in Oracle Arena since 2011. So the odds of winning with just 1 regular starter remaining seemed stacked against them. Apparently nobody told the 10 Clippers that saw action in this one that they weren’t supposed to win.

Lou Williams led the charge and went bucket for bucket with Kevin Durant. Williams has been having a year worthy of sixth man of the year so far, but his performance in this one was MVP caliber. Williams exploded in the third quarter. In a back and forth showdown, Williams gave the Clippers some life with 27 points in the third alone. Williams finished the game with 50 points! But scoring wasn’t the only way he led this squad. Lou was finding open teammates and opening up the Clippers offense with 7 assists.

Williams was doing it for the Clippers, but Durant was dropping them in for his Warriors. In his first night back from injury Durant went 14-18 from the field and 6-7 from beyond the arc with 40 points. Without Durant this game would have gotten out of hand quickly for Golden State. Mainly because of the fantastic performance by Lou.

Lou Williams couldn’t do it by himself though. Early in this game most of his help came from CJ Williams. The two-way player dropped 10 points in the first quarter and looked like he was on his way to a career game. However in the third quarter Williams rolled his right ankle and would not return for the remainer of the game.

When one two-way player exited another stepped up. The Clippers most recent call up, Guard Tyrone Wallace went 7-11 from the field from off the bench notching 22 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

In what was maybe the surprise win of the year due to all of the injuries, the Clippers walked into Oracle Arena and came out victorious in a 125-106 shootout.

An amazing win for Los Angeles as they get ready for another Pacific Division matchup with the Sacramento Kings tomorrow night.
