Los Angeles Lakers Player Profile: Wesley Johnson
- Updated: October 21, 2014
2013-2014 Season Stats
9.1 points per game 1.6 assists per game 4.4 rebounds per game
Wesley Johnson came to Lakers after a disappointing start to his career in Minnesota and Phoenix. The former first round pick showed great athleticism this season has he had 7 double digit rebound games last season.
Johnson played a career high 28 minutes a game last year due to the Lakers lack of a roster in nicer terms. With the increase in minutes he also set career highs in field goal percentage and three point percentage. Johnson expanded his game tremendously and was the Lakers defensive anchor. Yes, I know the Lakers did not play much defense last season, but at times Johnson guarded positions 1 through 5.
With Nick Young out with a torn ligament in his right thumb, Johnson should see even more heavy minutes to start the season out. Wesley Johnson’s biggest problem is that he struggles with consistency on a night to night basis. If he can take the next step and be a consistent factor on both ends of the floor he could be in for another solid year.
The Lakers really like Johnson’s athleticism and length so it will interesting to see how they use him under Byron Scott.
According to Serena Winters of Lakers Nation Scott had this to say about Wesley Johnson:
Byron Scott continuing on Wes Johnson (2/2): “…which is something I think he can be one of the best in the league at doing.”
