The Los Angeles Kings allowed four goals in the second period and lost to the New Jersey Devils 5-3. The Kings have been struggling with consistency issues all season and tonight was a perfect example. In their last game they put together a full 60 minutes and beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-0.  Tonight was the complete opposite.

As usual the Kings allowed their opponents to strike first. Steve Bernier scored the opening goal that was assisted by Mike Cammalleri and Scott Gomez. This gave the Devils a 1-0 lead after the first period.

The second period would be a nightmare for the Kings. However it didn’t start that way as Dustin Brown scored a slap shot goal that was assisted by All-Star Drew Doughty and Brayden McNabb. After that it was all downhill. Bernier scored his second goal of the night a backhanded shot assisted by Gomez and Jon Merrill that gave the Devils a 2-1 advantage.

Martin Havlat scored a wrist shot goal thirty seconds later that was assisted by Patrik Elias and Travis Zajac. To make matters worst Mike Cammalleri scored a wrist shot goal forty-five seconds later that was assisted by Michael Ryder and Dainius Zubrus. Ryder scored a wrist shot goal of his own to add to the pain and just like that the Kings were down 5-1.

In the third period the Kings made a slight comeback, if that’s any consolation. Marian Gaborik scored a backhanded goal that was assisted by McNabb and Justin Williams. Williams scored the final goal of the game that was assisted by Mike Richards as the Kings lost to the Devils 5-3.

The Kings will have to regroup as they take on the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday night at home. Hopefully the Kings are ready to go after this ugly defeat.
