Gibson Lifts Ducks Over Islanders

John Gibson made 39 saves and the Anaheim Ducks beat the New York Islanders 3-2 on Wednesday night. Anaheim snapped a two-game losing streak with the win.

The offense got started in the first period within the first minute when Andrew Cogliano scored a backhanded goal that was assisted by Josh Manson and Ryan Getzlaf.

New York answered with a tip-in goal from Brock Nelson that tied the score at 1-1. His goal was assisted by Scott Mayfield and Josh Ho-Sang.

In the second period, Rickard Rakell scored a tip-in goal. His goal was assisted by Cam Fowler and Andrew Cogliano. After the second period, the Ducks led 2-1.

Patrick Eaves scored a slap shot that pushed the lead to 3-1. Manson and Getzlaf were credited with the assist. Nelson scored his second goal of the night in the third period. Calvin de Haan and Ho-Sang was credited with the assist.

Gibson recorded 39 saves in the win for Anaheim. Jaroslav Halak recorded 27 in the loss. Anaheim will take on the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night at the Pepsi Center.
