Los Angeles Chargers Win 27-22 Over New York

Congratulations to Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn for his first career win in the NFL. In a very hard-fought game, the Chargers beat the New York Giants in New Jersey, 27-22.
Philip Rivers improved to 4-0 all-time against Eli Manning, who was drafted number one in the 2004 NFL Draft by the Chargers.
The Giants open the scoring on a Safety, Rivers batted the ball out of his own end zone for the score. Giants running back Orleans Darkwa scampered 23-yards to give New York a nine-point advantage.
The Chargers got on the scoreboard on the first of two short touchdown passes from Rivers to Melvin Gordon. Newly acquired kicker Nick Novak added a 20-yard field goal with 0:09 left in the first half to give the Chargers a one-point lead at 10-9.
Manning and the Giants regained the lead in the third quarter to give New York a 16-10 lead. Tight end Hunter Henry gave the
Chargers the lead back again, on 25-yard touchdown pass from Rivers. Odell Beckham Jr. caught a 48-yard pass from Manning in the early minutes of the fourth quarter that gave the Giants a five-point lead at 22-17. Another Novak field goal pulled the Chargers within two points.
Los Angeles regained the lead for the final time with 2:58 left in the game, on the second short touchdown pass to Melvin Gordon. The defense stopped the Giants on their final drive of the game, Tre Boston intercepted Manning to seal the team’s first win of the season.
BOLT NOTES:
Rivers had a very decent day, completing 21 of 44 passes for 258 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Melvin Gordon rushed 20 times for 105 yards on the ground for his first 100-yard game of the season. Gordon was also targeted eight times and gained 58 yards in the air with two touchdowns. Defensively, the team recovered a fumble, sacked Manning five times with one interception.
NEXT UP FOR THE CHARGERS:
The team will travel to the Black Hole in Oakland, to face the Oakland Raiders next Sunday afternoon. The game will be the third of the late afternoon game for week seven of the NFL schedule. The Chargers (1-4) are finally in the win column but are still in fourth place in the AFC Western Division.
