Luck Not Enough For Galaxy In Houston
- Updated: September 27, 2017
Sometimes you need a little luck. For a team that hasn’t had much of that this season, Wednesday night in Houston was a welcome change for the Los Angeles Galaxy.
LA came out in this one with a lineup that looked like it was going to struggle against a Dynamo club that is trying to fight their way into the final spot in the Western Conference playoff picture. Galaxy manager Sigi Schmid put out a lineup that reeked of preparing for next season. Clement Diop in goal, Gyasi Zardes at right back and Hugo Arellano at Center Back were all questionable moves but who are we to question the winningest coach in MLS history?
It didn’t take long for everyone in attendance to realize who had the good fortune on the night. In the 3rd minute a cross from Romain Alessandrini deflects off of Houston defender Demarcus Beasley making it 1-0 Galaxy. Apparently, getting off to a good start has been very beneficial for this club this season. Who knew?
Only the 8th time this season the Galaxy have the first goal. 5-1-1 in those games. #LAGalaxy

Maybe that great start added to the club’s luck moving forward. Houston had two shots clink off the post, one hit the side netting and one horrible error from Diop that should’ve resulted in a goal getting called back on an iffy foul call.
Can’t take anything away from the Galaxy though, it wasn’t all luck. Ashley Cole made a great run forward after an LA steal and put the ball on the foot of the most consistent player this club has had this season, Romain Alessandrini.
The quick start gets even better for the @LAGalaxy.

After the Alessandrini goal the momentum began to shift. Houston pushed the ball into the Galaxy’s half and created plenty of opportunities. The seemingly inevitable came in the 25th minute as Tomas Martinez beats some poor Galaxy defending to put the ball past Diop and in the back of the net.
Bradford Jameison IV was waiting after the half with a response. In the 47th minute Jameison put a shot on goal after a brilliant pass from Giovani Dos Santos that put the Galaxy up 3-1.

The Dynamo didn’t exactly take the two goal deficit and walk into the locker room fine with the result. In the 84th minute a foul by the youthful Arellano gave a penalty to Dynamo forward Alberth Elis. Making the Galaxy lead just a bit more uncomfortable, 3-2 now.
You might think after watching this Galaxy team all season I could see what was going to come next, I didn’t. What was once a comfortable 3-1 lead dwindled away and then it disappeared in the 88th minute as Elis wasn’t done quite yet.

Funny thing about luck, it’s not always enough. This LA team has made it a habit to disappoint this season but this one definitely hurt a bit as the club looked to be content with their lead after going up two goals. That’s a dangerous mistake to make and the Dynamo just showed them why.
The Galaxy will head back home to LA to take on another Western Conference playoff hopeful in Real Salt Lake Saturday.
