According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, San Diego Padres pitcher Jered Weaver has announced his retirement.

Matthew Pouliot of NBCSports shared his thoughts on the news.

Jered Weaver’s lack of velocity made for fun punchlines last few years, but 131-69, 3.28 ERA in his first 9 seasons. Led AL in K’s in 2010.

Weaver was drafted in the first round by the Angels in the 2004 MLB Draft. He spent 11 years of his career with the club before joining the Padres this season.

Weaver pitched in 9 games this season and posted an 0-5 record with a 7.44 ERA. Weaver was a 3-time All-Star with the Angles and lead the American League in wins in both 2012 and 2014.

Weaver had a spectacular career despite having a low velocity. Congratulations on your retirement Jered Weaver!
